Lecture #6 January 26th

Network Culture

I found this lecture quite hard to get my head around. The concepts however (ie. crowd-sourcing) are of interest to me but i am at a loss to even begin to write about them intellectually at present. I will look over the lecture notes again tonight and skim over the readings once more and write a proper blog later when i have more time to focus my thoughts.

  1. Crowd sourcing presents an interesting dilemma that could conceivably have a significant impact on us. Will they cheapen knowledge because instead of hiring an expert you go to the crowd for your knowledge, and will that mean that instead of great depth of knowledge you get a wide spread?

Given that scenario they present a threat to academics and even undergrads because why pay extra for a grad?

They also present a major opportunity in that they give us a huge platform of available information and shared knowledge to base our studies on. In other words, they give us a head start.

    Interesting stuff really.
